Small Wins, They Count!

Don’t ignore the small wins.

Life tries to beat you down enough without you piling on yourself!

Nobody cares about the small wins in life, but you should.

People like to focus on the huge successes, like who one the Superbowl. Or the big job promotion. Or the new house. And those things are good. The problem is those big wins are few and far between.

It’s focusing on the small wins that helps you keep going day to day, sometimes even hour by hour.

I have to admit, I’ve never been very good at that.

In pole vaulting, I choked at the conference meet my junior year. That ate at me. All the successes like I set the school record. I won Indiana and the Midwest regional in the Junior Olympics, and a few others but all I focused on was that one bad meet.

When you focus on the negative, it can spiral. You see one bad thing after another.

It’s easy to become depressed and just decide to take a nap and forget everything. Then, when you wake up, it starts again. I should have used that time to do something productive. And on and on.

If you can change that focus, it will change your life.

If you acknowledge the good things, you will realize your life is actually pretty good.

I don't know what I'm talking about, but if you think about it you really don't either. I write about lessons learned through my life. dougheron@outlook.com
