I am following the ambulance from the local hospital to the heart hospital 40 miles away and they are quickly getting ahead of me and out of my sight.

My Dad is in that ambulance, having a heart attack.

He called me this morning. It was hard to understand him because he was belching loudly between almost every word. He said it was probably indigestion, but his chest hurt, and both of his arms were numb.

I said, “I’m on my way.”

I wasn’t really worried because he was burping so much, I didn’t think that was symptom of a heart attack. Plus, I took him a bag of White Castle Sliders last night. He probably ate the whole bag. Probably just indigestion…

When I got Mom and Dad’s house, he had just checked his blood pressure, it was ok. But I saw his pulse was only 47. When I saw that, I told him let’s go, now.

On the way to the hospital I told him, “if this is just indigestion, I’m never buying you White Castles again.”

When we got to the hospital, they had to screen us for corona virus symptoms before they would even look at him or take him to the ER. Made him put on a mask because he said it was hard to breathe. It was hard to breathe because of the heart attack, and the mask didn’t help!

Then, the ER people were taking their time thinking it was just another old man with indigestion.
