Habits. Why is it easy to break one, and impossible to break another???

Habits control your life.

Every morning you roll over and hit the snooze button. You get up and brush your teeth, get a cup of coffee, and head off to work.

Is that routine something you consciously think about each morning? I don’t think so.

Habits can be either good or bad. If it’s a habit to get up, grab a glass of water then do your morning workout, that would be a good thing.

If you walk in the door every evening, grab a beer and plop down on the couch and veg out watching tv until time for bed, that’s probably not a good thing.

I think most things are habits.

One habit I have is while I’m trying to work on something that needs focus, if I hear the “ding” that I have a new email, I just can’t help it. I have to look. Even if I don’t look, my concentration is still broken because I want to look. It’s a habit.

When we let the dogs out, first Aldrek goes out. He’s old and gets grouchy. Then Molly. She keeps tearing her ACL when she rough houses with the others. Then we let the three pups out. Olivia, Blue, and Brutus. Every time, it’s the same order. Does it have to be? No. it’s a habit.

I don't know what I'm talking about, but if you think about it you really don't either. I write about lessons learned through my life. dougheron@outlook.com
